My Almost Nightmare

Posted by Ellie-A Little of This and a Little of That at 1:06 PM
As some of you know I am a breast cancer survivor.  When I was diagnosed the first time I had a mammogram, then an ultrasound, and both times the radiologist come running down the hall to catch me and bring me back into a room to talk to me and explain that he wanted to do an Ultrasound and why and then after the Ultrasound he wanted to let me know that there was something there that needed biopsied.  I had my biopsy done by the nicest radiologist who actually called me @ home from his home in the evening to give me the results.

So a couple weeks ago I went for my follow up mammogram at the place I had my biopsy done.  They do the mammogram and now I get the digital ones done and they give you the results right there.  The tech usually comes back and says everything looks good and you leave.  Well I got done and was sitting in the chair in my robe waiting to be told it was all good and I could get dressed when I looked up and coming down the hall was the tech and the doctor that did my biopsy.  All I could think was OMG it has only been 2 years, this can't be happening, I am just getting my life back.  He walks in and pulls the curtain, I started tearing up and he says well Miss Pongratz (I started crying) how have you been?  HOW HAVE I BEEN???  ARE YOU KIDDING ME??  Then he says "Everything looks good and your doctor wanted an Ultrasound if it warranted one and I don't see a reason for it so we're not going to do it."  RELIEF!  He just wanted to say hi and see how I was.  Good God don't scare a person like that.  I seriously thought he was going to say the cancer was back, I just started sobbing.  He apologized for scaring me and gave me a hug.

I  got dressed and couldn't get out of there fast enough.  So I am still CANCER FREE!!!!and have a few new gray hairs.   lol

You forgot the part where the radiologist told you to wait until some color came back into your face before you left. It's too bad they wouldn't let me any closer than the waiting room. I know you could have used someone to lean on at that moment.
