I received the Marcal Small Steps For the Home Gift Pack which included: Towels, Bath Tissue, Napkins, and Facial Tissue. The products had just the right combination of strength, absorbency and softness to handle every job. Marcal Small Steps actually recycle recycled paper to make their products and have for over 50 years. I was quite happy with the Marcal small steps.

Small Steps™ by Marcal® brand products focuses squarely on the
company’s green heritage. For over five decades, Marcal has been saving
trees and reducing landfill by making its paper products from recycled
paper.
Marcal uses paper collected from curbs in residential neighborhoods
in cities and towns across America; from the small blue baskets in
office buildings, unwanted junk mail, and waste from printers; all in
an effort to do something good… to produce something that people need.
Marcal is an integral part of the northern New Jersey community. The company uses recyclables from more than 600 municipalities from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and New England. The company is one of the largest employers in New Jersey, employing over 900 people.

Every 17 trees saved helps the earth absorb 250 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually
Every American
uses approximately one 100-foot-tall Douglas fir tree’s-worth ofpaper and wood
products per year.
A single tree
produces approximately 260 pounds of oxygen per year. That means two
mature trees can supply enough oxygen annually to support a family of
four.
Half of the
world’s forests have already been cleared or burned, and 80 percent of
what is left has been seriously degraded.
One tree can
absorb as much carbon in a year as a car produces while driving 26,000
miles.
Manufacturing
one pound of paper requires three and a half pounds
of wood and produces
three pounds of carbon dioxide.
Discarded paper
is one of the largest contributors to methane emissions from landfills.
(Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 20 times more potent in its effects
than CO2.)
An EPA study
concluded that “Federal subsidies of virgin paper product undoubtedly cost
the taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars.”

We're using their white dinner napkins right now and have been this past month. They work great and it's great to be doing at least something small for the environment.
All of us at Marcal welcome valid criticism and open discussion on blogs (and everywhere), but we want you to know that this person leaves comments like the one here anytime he or she sees something written about us…and leaves them anonymously or from a variety of different names, so there is no way we can get in touch and set the facts straight. The phrases used are always very similar, the kind of pattern that almost shouts, ”spam campaign.” This kind of nameless attack isn’t in the open spirit of blogs, and we think it’s a disservice to readers and to our hard-earned reputation. The simple fact is that we make our products in a manufacturing system designed to minimize our environmental impact.
We invite the person making these attacks to come pay us a visit; we have nothing to hide! We think our actions speak for themselves; otherwise, why would a group like the NRDC cite our factory in a discussion of companies leading the way environmentally in the New York metro area? (http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/egoldstein/green_apples_and_bad_apples_nr.html).
Marcal didn’t recently “paint itself green.” We’ve been using recycled paper since 1950, long before green was in. As for the lawsuit, it was settled with no admission of wrong doing, enabling the company to emerge from bankruptcy to protect and grow jobs under a new owner and management team that understands that, if you are going to market yourself as green, you better do things right.
Are we perfect? Of course not, but we are always striving to be better. We invite anyone with questions about our practices to contact us at ecofacts@marcalpaper.com
Happy Sunday!! When you get a moment, please stop by my blog. I left an award for you!!!
